BILLIE HOLLIDAY

Today I'm going to talk about Billie Holiday (1915-1959)

Biillie Holiday was an american jazz singer. He had a disaster live like lots of black people who lived in America during the first part of the 20th century.
Her parents were very young when she was born and they were poor. She started singing in some night clubs, at the age of sixteen, to earn some money. She became popular in 1933, when John Hammond, a talent of jazz, discovered her.
Then, her live made a change, she was a new talent of jazz, that's why she met lots of musicians who are very relevants of the jazz history like Lester Young, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fizerald, Count Bassie.. But even that, she wasn't wealthy because she was black, she loved buying expensive dresses, and specially she spent lots of money on drugs like most of the people who were arround her.
Anyway, she was famous because of her voice, she innovated singing flow with the microphone to the audience, and she wrote most of the songs that she singed like "Strange fruit" which is the most famous.

It's a very little introduction of her because she is more than that.

When I was looking for books which talked about jazz musicians, in Figueres' library, I found Billie Holiday's biography, that's how I discovered her.

Here you can listen a song with Louis Armstrong, you'll see it's an old recording:
